About Us

NARA serves as the central hub for amateur radio operators, focusing on four key areas: resources, engagement, outreach, and advocacy.

Our Goal is to establish the National Amateur Radio Alliance (NARA) as the leading resource center and advocate for the amateur radio community.

Our mission is to provide the tools, knowledge, and opportunities that enable operators to thrive while strengthening the bonds within the amateur radio world.

Our Vision is to foster a thriving, inclusive environment where individuals, clubs, and organizations can grow, connect, and engage. By empowering newly licensed operators and supporting active clubs, we envision a dynamic amateur radio community that is well-prepared, educated, and actively participating in shaping the future of the hobby.

Through a modern, collaborative environment, and with your help, we can connect, empower, and support individuals, clubs, and organizations. Amateur radio has long thrived on the traditions of mentorship, where experienced operators guide newcomers, passing down knowledge, skills, and a passion for the hobby. By creating opportunities for learning, mentorship, and growth, we bridge the gap between new and seasoned operators, ensuring a stronger, more united, and connected amateur radio community.

Do you share our vision? We need your support. Your membership strengthens the alliance and brings this vision to life.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are you trying to replace or compete with the ARRL?

No, NARA isn’t here to replace the ARRL. We value the important work the ARRL has been doing for years. While the ARRL focuses on advocacy, education, and emergency communications, NARA aims to provide additional resources for clubs, create community outreach opportunities, and encourage more engagement on the airwaves. Our goal is to work alongside the ARRL, complementing their efforts to help the hobby grow and thrive in a modern and collaborative environment, enhancing the overall experience for operators.

Is NARA a lobbying organization?

The National Amateur Radio Alliance (NARA) is not a lobbying organization and does not hire lobbyists, but we are deeply committed to advocating for amateur radio. We achieve this by keeping our members informed about important legislative and regulatory changes that may impact the amateur radio community. Instead of lobbying lawmakers through an organization, NARA encourages its members to directly reach out to their local representatives and advocate for issues that affect the hobby. When legislation or FCC proposals impact amateur radio, we publish our official stance on the matter and send email updates to our members to ensure they stay informed on key developments.

How does my membership benefit me?

NARA provides essential support and resources to enhance your amateur radio experience. This includes assistance with licensing, access to educational materials, and timely updates on important legislation and proposals that affect the hobby. Your membership dues play a crucial role in sustaining both the organization and the broader ham radio community. They help fund on-air activities, offering opportunities for community engagement, as well as annual awards that recognize exceptional contributions and educational scholarships for youth. Additionally, your dues ensure that NARA remains a key source of information for both new and experienced operators. By becoming a member of NARA, you not only enrich your own experience but also contribute to the growth and development of amateur radio. You’ll benefit from a dedicated organization that amplifies your voice, keeps you connected, and encourages your active participation in the ever-evolving world of amateur radio..

How much are the dues?

NARA's individual membership dues are $32 per year, offering a range of benefits, including access to discounts, notifications about proposed regulations, and license resources. What sets NARA apart is that we go beyond just individual memberships; we also offer memberships for clubs, organizations, businesses, and manufacturers. While our individual membership focuses on providing personal benefits, the expanded membership options are being developed to support the broader amateur radio community. These different membership tiers help foster collaboration across various sectors of the hobby, further enhancing the value for all involved.

How can I get involved?

Getting involved with NARA is a great way to make a positive impact on the ham radio community! We are looking for individuals to serve on our Board of Directors and the Board of Review for awards. Additionally, like many organizations, we rely on dedicated volunteers to help us grow and thrive in areas such as web design, award management, event planning, member support, and more.
